Alastair Mordey BA (Hons), APUK (Advanced Practitioner)
Program Director
Alastair has over twenty years of experience as an addictions professional. In the early 2000’s he worked in community drug and alcohol services in North London. In 2010, he founded The Cabin based in Chiang Mai Northern Thailand, which became one of the largest rehabs in the world.
Since then, Alastair has founded numerous other behavioral health companies. One Step was founded post-covid to address the new challenges that addicted people face, including more severe mental health problems as well as financial limitations. One Step’s mission is to provide the highest quality affordable addiction treatment in the world.
Alastair is one of the most prominent addiction professionals globally. As the figurehead and clinical pioneer of one of the most cutting edge treatment programs in the world. Timothy Panagos BSc (Hons), MBACP
Clinical Lead
Timothy holds a BSc (Hons) in Cognitive Behavioural Therapeutic Approaches and completed an Advanced Diploma in Counselling (MBACP no. 00784456) in 2006, which included an internship in Occupational Health (NHS, Mediscreen, Oldham Hospital).
He has since worked as a counselor for several prestigious private organizations in the addiction field, while also maintaining a private practice. Timothy currently supervises our clinical team, while overlooking treatment plans and the daily running of our primary care addiction treatment facility.
Having worked in the substance abuse industry for the last 18 years, his roles have included working as a primary therapist, Lead Clinician managing a secondary treatment facility and the Program Director for a youth focused primary care facility (The Edge) in Thailand. David Kaff
Addictions Counselor
David has worked in the addiction treatment field since 2011, beginning his career in harm reduction services in Sydney, including frontline roles at needle/syringe exchanges. He later transitioned into residential treatment settings, working across a range of 12-step based rehabs in Australia. Alongside his professional experience, David completed formal training in mental health and addiction counselling at Northern Beaches College and later pursued an Honours degree in Social Work at UNSW.
Since relocating to Thailand in 2017, he has held various clinical positions at several leading rehabilitation centers, where he has continued to develop a client-centered approach to recovery.
David also brings direct, personal insight into the recovery process. He has been on his own recovery journey from alcohol, drugs, and compulsive gambling since 2010 and is passionate about guiding others through the challenges of early recovery. Dr. Kongpesalaphun is a highly accomplished medical professional with a diverse background in both clinical practice and healthcare administration. Currently affiliated with the Department of Medical Services at Thanyarak Mae Hong Son Hospital, Dr. Kongpesalaphun has an extensive educational foundation that includes a Doctor of Medicine from Rangsit University, a residency in Psychiatry from the Somdet Chaopraya Institute of Psychiatry, and advanced degrees in Public Health, Political Science, and Business Administration.
He has received numerous accolades, including the Award for Outstanding Government Officer in 2020, reflecting his dedication to excellence in public health. His work in drug addiction treatment earned the Public Sector Excellence Award in 2020. Dr. Kongpesalaphun has held significant leadership roles, such as Acting Deputy Director at Thanyarak Chiangmai Hospital and Assistant Director at the Princess Mother National Institute on Drug Abuse Treatment.

Dr. Sriburapar, known widely as Dr. JJ, is a highly respected clinical psychologist and consultant with over 25 years of experience in mental health and addiction treatment. Serving as a Clinical Psychologist at Thanyarak Chiang Mai Hospital, she has played a key role in advancing mental health care and addiction recovery across Thailand.
Dr. JJ holds a Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology/Neuropsychology from the University of Kent, UK, and a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Chiang Mai University. Her extensive training includes specialties in EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Addiction, and Art Therapy, providing her with a diverse skill set to address complex patient needs.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. JJ is an active researcher and published author, contributing to fields such as therapeutic communities and addiction treatment methodologies. She also shares her expertise through consultations, workshops, and public speaking engagements.

Mrs. Siphan Sawangwong is a retired government officer recognized for her exemplary service as a Registered Nurse at the Senior Professional Level. She began her distinguished career at the Rehabilitation Inpatient Nursing Care Work division of Thanyarak Chiangmai Hospital. Throughout her tenure, she specialized in providing nursing care aimed at rehabilitating patients with substance abuse and drug addiction issues.
Mrs. Sawangwong’s dedication and expertise in her field earned her a respected position within the Department of Medical Services, Ministry of Public Health. Her professional credentials include a 1st Class Nursing and Midwifery License and membership with the Thailand Nursing and Midwifery Council. Mrs. Sawangwong’s commitment to her profession and community is well acknowledged.

Thineeporn Mordey (Fihn)
Managing Director
Fihn has a strong foundation in Liberal Arts and ten years of experience working at rehabilitation and sober living centers in Thailand. Starting her career as the Assistant to the Program Director at The Cabin from 2015 to 2019, Fihn honed her skills in client coordination and the presentation of treatment materials, ensuring that all programs were delivered effectively and with care.
From 2019 to 2023, Fihn served as the Director of Alpha Sober Living, where she was instrumental in managing the intake and admission processes for international clients.
As the Director of One Step Rehab, Fihn is responsible for overseeing the hiring and training of clinical staff, both Thai and foreign, and directing comprehensive client care, including hospital admissions and therapeutic excursions. Luke has over five years of experience working in addiction treatment, with a strong passion for supporting individuals through their recovery journey. He holds a certification in Drug and Alcohol Counseling from the College of Management and IT (CMIT) in Ireland. Luke’s role at One Step includes managing teams and ensuring clients receive exceptional care. He actively participates in global recovery networks, attending international conventions and creating opportunities for clients to hear inspiring recovery stories through guest speakers, both virtually and in person.
Having lived in Chiang Mai for eight years, Luke is active with the local recovery community and is familiar with resources available to clients. He thrives in personal interactions, offering guidance and empathy to those navigating the challenges of early recovery, while celebrating the lasting transformations that come with long-term sobriety. Natthinee Aroonsilp is a dedicated recovery support professional with personal experience in overcoming substance abuse. She is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology at Chiang Mai University, driven by her passion for addiction rehabilitation and her commitment to providing empathetic support and guidance to clients. She has hands-on clinical experience in fostering long-term recovery and wellness.
Her extensive experience includes serving as support staff at The Beekeeper House, The Dawn, and The Cabin rehabs in Chiang Mai. In these roles, Natthinee has supported clients in developing coping strategies during inpatient programs, assisted counselors with client-specific needs, maintained therapeutic boundaries while providing high-standard care, facilitated group classes on relapse prevention and other activities, and led online aftercare for program graduates. Brian Russman began his career in the fields of mental health and addictions over 20 years ago. He assists clients with addictions, trauma, and other mental health issues into recovery by using the latest evidence based treatments. Brian’s education includes a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Florida Atlantic University; and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work from Barry University.
He is a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (Brian has completed his training under Dr. Patrick Carnes CSAT model), a Certified Addiction Professional, an EMDR Certified Trauma Therapist Level 1&2; and has been trained cyber addictions as well.
Brian has over 14 years of direct clinical experience in Mental and Behavioral health care. Jackie is a London trained registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). She graduated from the University of Newcastle in the UK with a degree in Epidemiology and Anthropology and a Masters Degree from Newcastle University Medical School in Behavioural Healthcare Science. She has completed further training in Relationship and Psychosexual Therapy at the London Tavistock Clinic.
Jackie has extensive experience of delivering a range of clinical psychological interventions in the treatment of addiction, dual diagnosis and trauma. Having worked in addiction and addiction recovery for over 15 years, Jackie specialises in delivering aftercare, family therapy and relapse prevention skills after working with clients and families as a Senior Therapist and Trauma Lead in several of the UK’s most prestigious rehabs.
